Take me back to 5 years ago and let me reminisce on how I would spend all day not watching every Ghallywood Movie but certainly one that starred none other than the delectable Yvonne Okoro.
The now 35 years old actress could act— she had mastery of the craft she was making a career in and was only getting better with every other role she took up.
Yvonne is equally beautiful. Her skin is flawlessly alluring. Her grace is exceedingly elegant with her conspicuous bosom that would make any man weak in the knees.
From the several interviews she has granted in the past, one would be safe to say she is not just a pretty face. She is smart, confident, has great command on the Queen’s language and opinionated.
She is arguably one of the few female celebs you can have a rational conversation on any subject at all and would not be disappointed with her stance.
Yvonne Okoro who was born to a Nigerian father and a Ghanaian mother came into the limelight in 2002.
Her debut movie was titled ‘Sticking To The Promise’ which was produced by Nigerian movie maker Theo Akatugba. She performed brilliantly well so much so that, she got her next role with the same movie maker in the hit drama series ‘Tentacles’.
Apparently, her father was never on the same page with her when it came to being on the big screens. He always wanted her to be part of the elite and practically forced her to be in school.
Yvonne is learned. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, combining Linguistics and English from the University of Ghana. In 2009, she graduated from University of De-Nantes in France with a Diploma in French Civilization, Drama and Marketing and oh, in case you are wondering, she speaks fluent French.
In all, she has starred in over 20 movies which have earned her several awards including the African Movie Academy Award two times in a row.
The last movie she produced was Ghana Must Go which was starred by big names in the industry like Nkem Owo, Helen Paul, Ada Umeh, Blossom and herself playing the lead role.
The movie garnered lots of deserving attention and had great reviews which led her fans to believe we would be seeing more from her camp.
Nonetheless, that thought was short-lived and after four years, we have not yet seen any movie produced by her.
She recently starred in one of Yvonne Nelson’s self-produced movies titled ‘Fix Us’ and once again, we allowed ourselves to believe we were going to see more of her but right up until now, we have not.
Between her long hiatus and taking up singular roles, there were several rumours that Yvonne was taking up a course in Law. A decision many have deduced was inspired by her good friend Sandra Ankobiah, who is a lawyer by profession, amongst other things.
She had her own lifestyle show dubbed ‘Dining With Cooks and Braggarts’ which run its course and had some prominent people coming on.
It was exciting when it was in its prime but certainly not something we would miss.
Today, the most we see or hear of Yvonne mostly are the once in a long while pictures she shares on her Instagram page.
It is almost as if the screen goddess never existed and even her social media pages can feel her absence.
I mean, there was a time that a minute would not pass by without bumping into a picture of Yvonne Okoro on Instagram. All of that has ceased to exist for reasons better known to her.
We miss her, we miss the delight we feel when we saw her doing what she knows how to do best on TV and we definitely want her to come back from wherever she is to fill us up with more of her.
We cannot accept that a talented actress like herself is beginning to feel like an unknown distant memory.
