Rex Omar, veteran Highlife musician has called on all celebrities to come out boldly and show their support for their affiliated political parties. This happened on the evergreen Nana Ama McBrown’s entertainment program dubbed United Showbiz on Utv on the night of Friday17th October, 2020.
Speaking as representative of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), uncle Rex said “I am a politician and a musician, a card-bearing member of the NDC since 1992 and not singing for the NDC as a sympathizer, I am doing politics “.
When asked why he joined the NDC, Rex Omar claimed “NDC is the best political party in Ghana because of their ideologies and good track-records in terms of building health and educational facilities”
On the show to speak for the New Patriotic Party(NPP) were the “Mabowoden na mafr3wo” hitmaker Evangelist Diana Asamoah and Great Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, a veteran gospel musician who also outlined some the good works of the NPP. To play the neutral role was entertainment blogger and critic Arnold Asamoah Baidoo who also encouraged other celebrities to feel free and make their political stands known to the public because it is their Right of Freedom to Association to belong to a particular group of people they wish to join.
Most musicians and celebrities in political seasons come out to show support and canvas for votes for the political parties they affiliates to, an act that has seen many of them off-screen when their affiliated political parties do not win elections. For veteran Highlife musician Rex Omar, the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana has paved the way for democratic development of the nation hence other celebrities have the right to in their own way campaign for the political parties they belong to and he has chosen to do that.
